Deanna M. Stea

Partner

Deanna, who was made a partner in 2011, articled with Dutton Brock and joined the firm as an associate following her call to the Bar in 2002.

Deanna's practice consists of representing insurers and advising risk managers in all aspects of general insurance liability, including products liability, bodily injury, professional negligence, occupier's liability, social host liability, false arrest/false imprisonment, malicious prosecution, construction negligence, property and fire loss, entertainment law disputes, accident benefits and bad faith litigation.

She has appeared as counsel in all levels of courts in Ontario, as well as a Coroner's Inquest. Deanna has also appeared before various tribunals, including the Financial Services Commission of Ontario and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Tribunal.

Deanna completed her B.A. in 1998 at York University. She went on to complete her LL.B at Ottawa University in 2001. Deanna was admitted to the Ontario Bar in October of 2002.

Lectures

Deanna has presented to some of the firm’s institutional clients respecting the introduction of mandatory use of force training in Ontario (Bill 159) so as to assist those clients/retailers who engage private security personnel to comply with the recent amendments respecting the Private Investigators and Security Guards Act.

In particular, Deanna presented and was a panelist for the Canadian Society for Industrial Security Inc. respecting its forum on Mandatory Use of Force Training in 2007.
