IN MEMORIAM

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend and founding partner, Brian J.E. Brock, K.C.

Brian Brock received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario and his LL.B. from Osgoode Hall Law School. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 1969 and appointed King’s Counsel in 1981. He received the designation Specialist in Civil Litigation from the Law Society of Ontario.

Brian was recognized as a leader in the profession year after year in the fields of Commercial Insurance, Products Liability, Class Actions, Professional Liability and Personal Injury. Brian served as an adjunct Professor at Osgoode Hall Law School, taught Trial Practice at The University of Toronto and was an instructor at the Bar Admission Course. Brian lectured and wrote extensively on insurance coverage, products liability, class proceedings, and participated in the Law Society of Upper Canada Special Lectures on Professional Liability. He was inducted into the distinguished American College of Trial Lawyers and has been listed as among Canada's top 500 lawyers since 2002.

Brian was a leader of lawyers, dedicating himself to bar associations. He served as President of the Toronto/County of York Law Association, the Medico-Legal Society of Toronto, as a Director of The Advocates’ Society and Editor of the Advocates’ Society Journal. He served on the Regional Senior Justices Bench and Bar Committee. He was a permanent member of Canadian Defence Lawyers, DRI – Lawyers Representing Business, the Canadian Bar Association as well as a supporting member The University Club and The Royal Canadian Military Institute.

Brian Brock was one of Dutton Brock LLP’s founding partners and was instrumental in making our firm into one of Canada’s premier insurance defence firms. Most of our partners and employees were fortunate enough to work with him on complex litigation. He was known in the legal community as a valiant litigation opponent and as a trusted legal counsel to Canada’s companies and insurers. He appeared at the Supreme Court of Canada numerous times and regularly argued appeals at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Brian thrived in the practice of law, excelling not just in the court but as a mentor to so many lawyers who owe invaluable trial experiences to him.

His legacy will live on with family, friends and colleagues along with the legal community that he devoted much of his life to.

THANK YOU BRIAN, FOR YOUR PASSION FOR THE LAW AND THE LEGAL PROFESSION

From your friends and colleagues at Dutton Brock LLP
